That Pregnancy Glow
And why you should capture it. Because you should. And now that I have all of my maternity pics back, I wanted to share why I think every mom to be should capture this time. First off I should note that if you don’t already know this, I am a photographer. Mostly as an adjunct side business, but I still hope someday, I can make it more full time. My specialty is portraits so I’m wholly in favor of capturing people in their element at any stage. But these landmarks, they are the best. So yes, I will be spending the money to have someone else document my trio with…

Your Birth Story. A Letter to my Children
My dearest Liam, Luka and Violet, One month ago, you entered this world just shy of thirty weeks gestational age. Today you would be 34 weeks if you were still inside me, but on Thursday, May 27th, 2021, it was your turn to enter this world and change the lives of your dad and I for the better forever. We had been checking my blood pressure twice daily since our appointments at both doctors on the Thursday the week before you were born. I had very mild signs that I might be developing preeclampsia and so we were were making sure my blood pressure didn’t get too high, making sure…

MFM & OB Appt Update 5.20.21 – 28.5 Weeks
I’m backtracking here because it’s been a whirlwind and there just wasn’t time before. So to catch you up…We saw our OB and MFM on Thursday, May 20th. With back to back appointments, we hauled our laptops with us and worked in the hospital lobby between visits instead of going home in between. My OB appt was up first. They just did a quick sono to check heartbeats and we got a couple of pics because they knew the MFM would be doing a much more detailed scan that afternoon. My blood pressure was a little high that day and they found a trace amount of protein in my urine.…

MFM Update 5.13.21 – 27.5 Weeks
Today we went back to the MFM for another growth scan on all three babies. And we got to see them in 3D! Only Liam cooperated for a great photo but it was super fun to see their faces. Liam and Luka (A & C) clocked in at 2lb 5oz each, landing in the 26th percentile. Little Violet (B) is still little, she was 1lb 14oz and hovering in about the 3rd percentile. It makes me nervous to think of her being so much smaller but she’s a little fighter I know. The good news is that her cord blood flow, her heart rate, and her fluid pocket are all…

MFM & OB Update 5.6.21 & 5.7.21 – 26.5 Weeks
A little late in posting this but it’s been getting tougher now to get things done. I am more and more uncomfortable each day as I near the size of someone who is full term with one baby. And pregnancy brain is most definitely a real thing! Last week we saw the OB on Thursday and then the MFM on Friday so I’m combining these into one post as they were relatively short visits in the grand scheme of our appointment types. At the OB I had my glucose screening, so I got to drink a lovely bottle of something that tasted like extra sweet, slightly flat orange Fanta. It…

MFM Appointment 4.29.21 – 25.5 Weeks
Yesterday we were back at the MFM for another growth scan. Baby Boy A (Liam) weighed in at 1lb 11 oz and was in the head down position, which explains the bit of relief I’ve had from him pounding his little feet into my bladder and nether regions. Baby Boy C (Luka) weighed in at 1lb 12 oz and was also head down and wiggling away. They were able to get the heart measurements on him that they couldn’t get last time and everything looked good. They were both around the 26th or 27th percentile for growth at this stage, which was up from two weeks ago. Baby Girl B…

MFM Appointment 4.15.21 – 23.5 Weeks
I’m a bit late in posting this but we had our fourth visit with the MFM (Maternal Fetal Medicine) doctor last Thursday. It was a fairly long visit – they did full measurements for each baby and then a fetal echo on each baby as well. For the measurements, they measure certain body parts – the head, the belly, the femur, and I think a couple other smaller parts of the brain. They combine all the measurements together to determine each baby’s weight and overall size. Last week all three babies weighed the same, 1lb 3 oz. They fell into the 15th, 16th and 17th percentile for overall growth. It…

Middle-Aged & Pregnant
On Sunday, the three little fetuses inside me turned 23 weeks and on Monday, I turned 47. I can tell you with complete certainty that I never expected to be pregnant for the first time at this age. Not in my 20’s when I thought that surely I would be married by 30. Not in my thirties, when my mom said to me casually that she no longer minded if there was a significant other present. To be clear, there was never any pressure – my parents always told me to do what made me happy, not them. And while I knew I wanted to be a mom, the idea…

What’s in a Name (or Names)
I can honestly say I never in my life expected that I would have to choose names for three babies at once. Three little lives who will be defined by the monikers we choose to assign them. No pressure right? I mean sure, I’m female, seeing that positive pregnancy test wasn’t the first moment in my life where I thought about what I would name my unborn child. I distinctly remember a phase, probably somewhere around the 5th or 6th grade, when all little girls start thinking about boys, and families, when I decided I was having twin girls one day, and they would be named Veronica and Victoria. I…

OB Appt Update 4.7.21 – 22.5 Weeks
Today we visited the OB for another relatively quick visit. But it was the best sonogram yet, because Andres was able to capture video of a precious moment when Baby A (Liam) yawned! I’ve included it below. Otherwise it was a pretty uneventful scan – the babies all had heartbeats in the 140’s and they all looked bigger. They didn’t do any measurements on the babies since we go back to the MFM next Thursday for a lengthy and detailed scan. They did measure my cervix again and it was 5 cm so that was great news, it’s even a bit longer than last week. Baby A (Liam) was head…
